Summary: | The consist of documents relating to Béla Király as one of the key figures of the Hungarian political émigré community in the US, who also took an active part in supporting and organising the Hungarian domestic dissident movement throughout the 1980s. The first part of the documents covers mostly the early post-1956 period, that saw the establishment of the Hungarian Freedom Fighters Federation, and the Inquiry of the Special United Nations Committee on the 1956 Hungarian revolution. (In this period Prof. Király often filed his papers in dossiers called “Diary" in chronogical order.) The second part relates mostly to the 1980s, when the Hungarian dissident movements were revitalised and started to have more and more of an impact on the political life of the country. In the reports and correspondence the researcher can find documents that are connected to many important figures, who became prominent politicians after the collapse of the regime in 1989.
