Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): United Nations Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary Gábor Havas, a prominent Social Democrat and president of the workers' council of the catering industry in Budapest, made a statement. He spoke about the 1947 elections, the interrogation methods of the ÁVH, the prison conditions during the Rákosi regime, and the workers' councils. [László] Oltványi, a chemical engineer, made his statement. He gave an account of the most important events of the revolution in the 20th district in Budapest. Tibor Pásztory was an advisor to Zoltán Tildy, Minister of State, on economic affairs. Pásztory made a statement about the Imre Nagy-government and events in Parliament during the second part of the revolution.
