Summary: | The series consists of the issues of OMRI Daily Digest, which was an electronic publication of the Open Media Research Institute. It carried on the traditions of the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Daily Report which ceased publication in December 1994. The first issue was published on 2 January 1995, and the last - on 28 March 1997. It appeared Monday through Friday (except holidays). Starting from 1997 it appeared in two parts, the first of which was a compilation of news concerning Russia, Transcaucasia and Central Asia, while the second covered Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe and was distributed simultaneously as a second document.
As a comprehensive survey of current events and developments in the former Soviet Union, East, Central and Southeastern Europe, it was based on a wide range of regional and international sources. The publication focused not only on larger countries and issues, but also on developments in places not often discussed in the Western press.
It was prepared by analysts working at the OMRI Research and Analysis Department and disseminated electronically free of charge by subscription. There were 15 000 subscribers in 1996. All issues were available also through OMRI's website, which had 5750 readers in March 1996
