Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Number of Soviet troops stationed in Hungary has increased from 70,000 to 100-150,000; official data states that 600 people have been arrested and 89 executed, but unofficial numbers of arrestees is 2-5,000; the right to a fair trail has been curtailed; the norm system has been reestablished; voluntary return to collective system for peasants.
