Polish Independent Press on the Hungarian Minority in Romania / by Anna PomianRecent editions of several Polish independent publications have started to discuss the problem of the Hungarian minority in Romania; although much of the material is not new and is generally known in the West, it is significant that the subject has aroused considerable interest in the Polish independent press. International Human Rights Conference to Be Held in Cracow / by Anna PomianA Solidarity human rights monitoring commission intends to hold a conference in August to consider the violation of human rights in Poland against the background of current Soviet policy. Survey of Catholic Samizdat Publications in Czechoslovakia / by Anna PomianCatholic samizdat publishing is plentiful and diverse in Czechoslovakia, as can be seen from a recent survey in the Polish independent press. This wealth of publications reflects the constraints that are still placed on officially sanctioned religious publishing. The April-May Strikes Criticized / by Anna PomianA popular independent journalist has issued the severest criticism to date of the April-May strikes in Poland. He claimed that the strikes had been provoked and manipulated by the authorities and that the various slogans used to appeal for popular support had been inadequate and had ignored the realities of contemporary life. The Expensive Business of Book Publishing / by Anna PomianIn addition to the flourishing independent press in Poland, there are numerous publishing houses that specialize in printing uncensored books. In a recent interview with an independent publication, two representatives of an independent publisher described the means and cost of producing such books. Profiles of Major Independent Polish Publications: "KuItura Niezależna" / by Michał Kołodziej"Kultura Niezależna - Miesięcznik Komitetu Kultury Niezależnej" is a monthly publication appearing in Warsaw dealing with independent cultural activities.
