Description
Summary:The Document Center (DC) preserved the TK/MKI’s institutional memory in a unique whole, its original aim being to function as a repository and archive within the institution. On the basis of the contents list, we can assume that those in charge of running the DC filed and marked thousands of documents, manuscripts, translations, studies and papers for internal use with a [D] sign: in 1988, for instance, the DC contained 8,805 items. The present series encompasses only a fragment of this total, as we have reconstructed 950 items from the original filing structure. The DC contains work carried out by all the TK/MKI’s researchers, and all commissioned studies and analyses. From time to time, we can also come across manuscripts and annotated fragments, which show that it was not only final versions of work that were filed and preserved. Although one portion of the research reports and analyses marked with a [D] appeared as publications, a certain proportion of them remained in manuscript form. These include analyses comprising hundreds of pages on the entire spectrum of the Institute’s activities, from media and public opinion research, methodological survey findings, to secondary analyses of public survey findings. Alongside the research reports, the DC also contains edited versions of talks delivered at academic conferences organized by the Institute (Language and Communication; The Nature of Beliefs; Lifestyle; Models and Patterns), as well as studies on long-term media and technology development. No destruction was carried out.
