East German tourists enjoyed coming to Balaton for more than its silky waters and sunny weather and not just because they could not travel anywhere else. It was a meeting place between the East and the West where divided families could enjoy Hungarian hospitality, even if they could not escape the surveillance of the East German Stasi and Hungarian secret agents. |
