Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): United Nations Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary The statement of Witness X [György Heltai] on the extent of Soviet political influence in Hungary before 1956; he also summarized the events of October-November, 1956. Members of the committee asked him questions relating to the actions of the Imre Nagy government, the declarations of neutrality and of the denunciation of the Warsaw Pact, the roles played by Imre Nagy and János Kádár.
