Anne Loughlin [1894-1979] became a trade union organiser in 1915 and was General Secretary of the National Union of Tailors and Garment Workers 1948-1953. She was TUC President in 1943 and a member of the Royal Commission on Equal Pay 1944-46. When the Royal Commission concluded that women in teaching and certain grades of the civil service might benefit from equal pay, Loughlin was one of three women members who thought equal pay should be extended to women in industry and produced a minority report. |
