Description
Summary:1932-10-06 1932 1930s 2 pages TRADES UNION CONGRESS GENERAL COUNCIL INTER-DEPARTMENTAL CORRESPONDENCE SUBJECT. - 2 - The Manor House Hospital is not on the list of the Hospital Savings Association as they raise their own funds and deal with their own members. There is no antagonism between them and, in fact, I understand many workers subscribe to both, although a subscriber to the Manor House Hospital receiving treatment there would get no grant from the Hospital Savings Association. The Trade Union Movement as such has never been identified directly with the Hospital Savings Association, and the question arises as to whether anything which could be construed as direct identification could re-act detrimentally on the Manor House Hospital. It must, however, be admitted that the Manor House Hospital cannot at present cater for the wide range of cases undertaken in other hospitals, although, of course, constant improvement to that respect is being effected. In the circumstances, the wiser course might be not to speak for the Hospital Savings Association. It would hardly be possible to advocate at their meeting State support of the hospitals because, as previously stated, the Association was formed for the express purpose of maintaining the voluntary subscription principle.
