3 On July 25, 1901, the Council adopted the following resolution of the Administrative Committee:— 'That the arrangements approved by the Council on March 25 last for co-operation between Hospital Almoners and the District Committees of the Society remain in force for the nine months ending January 1, 1902.' The Almoners' Reports, which we append, show the work carried on by the ladies who hold this position at the Royal Free, St. George's, and Westminster Hospitals, and point out how useful they have found the co-operation of the District Committees. In order to ascertain the views of the District Committees with regard to their co-operation with the Almoners on the lines of 'Partial Enquiry' and 'Friendly Visiting,' the following questions were circulated amongst them : 1. If the cases, where partial enquiry has been made or friendly visits paid, have proved satisfactory? 2. Whether the cases which have been dealt with in this way have proved troublesome or inconvenient? 3. If your Committee think it desirable to continue to co-operate in this manner with the Almoners of the Royal Free, St. George's, and Westminster Hospitals? From the replies received it appears that the Committees generally consider that those cases in which they have made partial enquiries or friendly visits have been satisfactory, and that co-operation with the Almoners should be continued. The Camberwell Committee prefer not to offer an opinion as to the advisability of making partial enquiries, and the Brixton Committee were averse to doing so. The Chelsea Committee write as follows with regard to friendly visits :— They (the Committee) do think that the system has possibilities of much usefulness, both as regards the propagation of C.O.S. principles and the information afforded to Hospital Almoners. No particular inconvenience has so far arisen, but it may be pointed out that great responsibility is thrown upon the Visitor in deciding whether a case shall remain a 'Friendly Visit' or become an application for help.
