Description
Summary:1931 1931 1930s 2 pages To make sure of giving the baby the best chance and of remaining as well and healthy and comfortable as possible yourself is the chief reason why you ought to get skilled advice. There is another reason, too ; having a baby is usually perfectly safe, but sometimes it is not. Things may go wrong, which may mean serious illness for the mother or danger for the baby. But if you will only let the doctor or midwife care for you during pregnancy any trouble can almost certainly be put right and you will be saved the bad time you might otherwise have. Or, again, you may not be very well in yourself when the baby begins to come. Perhaps you are anaemic, or you have varicose veins, or you have a cough, or you have suffered with your heart, and you may require special care or treatment to put you right and to make up for the extra strain of pregnancy. So you see, the only sensible thing to do if you want to keep well yourself and do all you can for the baby, and get quickly back to your ordinary health and strength, is to tell the doctor or the midwife about it at once. If you do not know which doctor to consult, you can always go to the nearest Ante-natal Clinic or to an Infant Welfare Centre and ask for advice. Do not delay because you feel shy or awkward about it, but do it at once! You will be very glad in the end if you do.
