Description
Summary:1932-11 1932 1930s 36 pages ference's persistent demand for the development of ante-natal and post-natal care, skilled midwifery and the services of skilled obstetricians. "As no Local Authority is as yet using all its powers to safeguard mothers and many only a very small percentage and as in many cases reorganisation of the Maternity Services is needed to render them effective, this meeting pledges itself to unresting work till in each area these vital services are completely developed" was put to the meeting and carried unanimously. Miss GREGORY, British Hospital for Mothers and Babies : I know that I shall be voicing the feeling of everyone here if I ask you to pass a very warm vote of thanks to Lady Iveagh for her kind and patient chairmanship. It is remarkable that we should have a meeting of this kind so well attended and with such an influential chairman in the chair. Thirty-five years ago one was regarded as a freak if one took up this work ; I was told at that time that this, at least, "was a matter with which we unmarried ladies need not concern ourselves," and I think we must admit that it is a mark of great progress that we should have so important an assembly on the platform, so influential a chairman, and so well attended a meeting. THE CHAIRMAN : Thank you very much. I hope no one will think that I was over anxious with the bell. (34) 292/824/1/45
