1. TO REBUILD THE CASUALTY DEPARTMENT, AND PROVIDE AN UP TO DATE X-RAY DEPARTMENT WITH THE LATEST APPARATUS FOR DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT. The Board of Governors are faced with an urgent re-building programme, and have asked the Saturday Hospital Society to assume financial responsibility for this portion of the scheme. £50,000 is required. With YOUR help this can be raised over a number of years. Remember the Power of the Pence! 2. THE PRESENT CONTRIBUTION OF 1d. A WEEK DOES NOT PAY THE FULL COST OF INFIRMARY TREATMENT AND OTHER BENEFITS GIVEN BY THE SOCIETY. In 1937 when the upkeep of the Royal Infirmary cost £105,000, at least 70% of the patients were our members and their dependents. The grant to the Royal Infirmary from our annual collection did not meet the cost of treatment by a considerable margin. Our ideal must be to pay the FULL cost every year, and not leave a balance to be met from other sources of income. 3. TO PAY FOR THE INCREASING COSTS OF THE ROYAL INFIRMARY NURSING SERVICE. Reduced working hours and higher salaries are already in operation. You will agree with this, but it means additional expense. YOU WILL OBTAIN AN ADDITIONAL BENEFIT — AMBULANCE SERVICE. In those factories where the increased scale of contribution is adopted, all the contributors will be entitled to a re-fund of Ambulance Charges incurred when necessary for attendance at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. (Regulations regarding this service will be issued separately.)
