Description
Summary:1942-07-20 1942 1940s 5 pages -2- Schemes covering more than one hospital. In order to collect contributions from workmen in industries whose operations cover widely scattered areas the voluntary hospitals have organised more elaborate schemes such as the G.W.R. Welsh Hospitals Contributions Scheme. Under this scheme railwaymen are invited to make a contribution of 3d per week and to name a hospital in their home area to which they desire their contributions sent. The contributions are then deducted from wages and paid over to the Secretary of the Royal Gwent Hospital Workmen's Fund, who shares the money - approximately £16,000 per annum - between the hospitals "in the scheme". The voluntary hospitals at present "in the scheme" are those willing to accept a weekly contribution of 3d. viz:- Newport Royal Gwent Llanelly Cardiff Royal Infirmary Carmarthen Pontypool Haverfordwest Merthyr General Tenby Mountain Ash Pontypridd Porth Aberavon Bridgend Brecon Swansea General Clydach Aberdare Aberystwyth The British Hospitals Contributory Schemes Association has organised similar schemes at Bridgend and Glascoed R.O.F's. Under these employees are invited to make the weekly contribution appropriate to the hospital in their own home areas. The varying amounts authorised are then deducted from wages and sent to the British Hospitals' Contributory Schemes Association in Birmingham and the Association undertakes to share out the money to the hospitals name after the deduction of a small percentage to cover its own expenses The following table shows the voluntary hospitals benefiting, together with the contributions paid in each case:- BRIDGEND R.O.F.
