Description
Summary:C02-0116-001 15th September, 1937. The Secretary Spanish Medical Aid Committee, 24/28, New Oxford Street, LONDON W.C.2. Dear Sir (or Madam), Sub-Committee. In the Minutes sent to me of the last meeting, at which I was not present, I notice at the end of Item 2. of the Committee that it was agreed that a Sub-Committee should be formed to deal apparently with the question of Office Administration and the allegations against the Organising Secretary, and that it was agreed that I, as Chairman, should be a member of the Sub-Committee. With great respect I ask to be allowed to decline acceptance of membership of this Committee. I do not consider such a Sub-Committee necessary. I am prepared to do all I can to help Republican Spain in its present struggle, but I am not prepared to devote time to matters which seem to me quite trivial and unnecessary, and which with goodwill and comradeship could be settled quite amicably if all of us concentrated on the purpose of rendering medical aid to Spain and not on criticisms of individual members or workers for this Committee. I have noticed the tendency to criticism of selected individuals cropping up from time to time in the Committee - on occasions the Chairman is criticised; on other occasions Lord Churchill 's excellent work is unjustifiably submitted to criticism, and at the present time the hard work of the Organising Secretary now seems to be the butt for criticism. I deplore this situation and hope that we shall devote ourselves to constructive work medically for Spain. Yours faithfully, Chairman, Spanish Medical Aid Committee. 292C/946/2/116
