Description
Summary:001-0146-001 International WMC/EAB/DT/162 21st October, 1942. Mr. R. Prain, Electrical Trades Union, Ollerenshaw Hall, Whaley Bridge, Stockport, CHESHIRE Dear Mr. Prain, U.G.T. Delegation in Great Britain Thank you for your letter of 19th October in which you enclose a copy of a letter you have received from the General Workers' Union of Spain and asking whether it is officially recognised by the British T.U.C. At the end of June last we received an invitation from this body to be represented at a Conference which they were organising on 4th and 5th July. We made enquiries of our friends of the I.F.T.U. and we were informed that the General Workers' Union of Spain is Communist. We consequently did not reply to the invitation. The name of the body which is recognised by the T.U.C. and the I.F.T.U. is called the Trade Union Group of Spanish Workers in Gt. Britain, the offices of which are in this building. For your information the I.F.T.U. wrote to the General Workers' Union of Spain at the beginning of July last asking for particulars of their activities but has not so far received a reply. Yours sincerely, General Secretary. 292/946/1/146
