Description
Summary:016a-0009-001 IFTU Warsaw June 1937 RESOLUTION The General Council of the International Federation of Trade Unions, meeting in Warsaw on the 30th June, 1937, with representatives of twenty-three National Centres and nineteen International Trade Secretariats in attendance, affirms with force its full and unconditional solidarity with Republican and democratic Spain, which is fighting heroically against the aggression of Italian and German Fascism. In conformity with the attitude adopted [view held] since the start of the rebel generals' rising against the legal and constitutional Government of Spain, the organisations of the workers demand from all countries a return to the complete application of international law on behalf of Spain and the restoration of commercial freedom to Spain. Recent events have clearly showed that Italy and Germany are aiming with all possible means at conquering Spain politically and economically and are deliberately provoking a world [general] war. For these reasons, the General Council of the IFTU regard it as the urgent and imperative duty of the countries forming part of the League of Nations to take action without delay and by all the means provided for in the Covenant, in order to restore to Spain [the] complete political and territorial independence, [of Spain,] and by [performing this action] acting with [decision,] promptitude and energy, to save the peace of the world. 292/946/16a/11
