NOTICE OF MEETING A meeting of the National Joint Committee for Spanish Relief and the Basque Children's Committee will be held at Room 5, the House of Commons, on Thursday, March 3rd, 1938 at 5.30 p.m. MEMORANDUM For various reasons it is necessary to regularise the legal position of those responsible for the Basque children. While the other work of the National Joint Committee can well be carried on by an informal body, that of the Basque children entails liabilities, such as taking leases, responsibility for repairs, etc. Owing to the hurry in which the work was done most of these responsibilities are personally on one or two Officers and, in one case, on one of the Staff. In order to safeguard the position of the members of the Committee, all of whom are ultimately responsible individually it is essential to form a Limited Company and a representative of the Committee's Solicitors will attend the meeting. The simplest form would seem to be a BASQUE CHILDREN'S COMMITTEE LIMITED, with the following Officers as its members: The Duchess of Atholl, M.P. The Earl of Listowel. Miss Eleanor Rathbone, M.P. Mr. H.V. Tewson. Mr. Wilfrid Roberts, M.P. Mr. D.R. Grenfell, M.P. Mr. G.T. Garratt. These would be guarantors for a fixed and small sum. It is, of course, to be a non-profitmaking Company with limited liabilities and we should have gradually to transfer the financial responsibility of the Basque children on to this Company. G.T.
