Description
Summary:010-0019-001 WMC/WJB/AC/288 International 3lst December, 1936. Sir Arthur Pugh, "Gosfield", Sturry Hill, CANTERBURY. Dear Sir Arthur, SPAIN. The National Council of Labour, when discussing the situation in Spain at its meeting last week, expressed the view that it would be very useful if someone from our Labour Movement here were appointed to go to Spain in the capacity of an "observer", with the object of getting to know at first hand what is taking place, and keeping tne Council informed up-to-date concerning events. As whoever was appointed would have to be absent for some weeks, it is obvious that many who would have been willing are ruled out, and consequently it occurred to me that perhaps you might be free just now, and might be willing to give favourable consideration to the idea. Would you kindly let me know whether I could put forward your name as being ready to undertake tnis job? Of course, it would be left to your own discretion as to how you would carry out the work, and where you would stay, and whom you would see. All the expenses incurred would be covered from the International Solidarity Fund. I should be glad if you would think over the matter and send me your reply as soon as you have made up your mind. With kind regards, and wishing you the compliments of the Season, Yours sincerely, General Secretary. 292/946/10/19
