Description
Summary:011-0062-001 WMC/WJB/ AC/902 International 22nd July, 1937. Mr. W. Schevenels, International Federation of Trade Unions, 9, avenue d'Orsay, PARIS VIIe. Dear Comrade Schevenels, SPAIN. With reference to your telephonic message last Saturday about the resignation of Comrade Delvigne, and the need for sending a representative of the British Trade Union and Labour Movement to Spain, both Gillies and I have been trying to find someone to undertake this work, but up till now, I am very sorry to say, our efforts have been unsuccessful. Apart from the language difficulty, the people we have asked find that they are full up with engagements which they cannot possibly cancel, or else they cannot leave their own work for so long a time. I quite understand how useful it would be to have someone from our country on the spot, but I am afraid there is not much likelihood of our being able to find someone for this purpose. Incidentally, Dr. Morgan, our Medical Adviser, is to be in Spain very shortly, and I have asked him to run over to the hospital and have a general look round, and make a report to us. Yours faithfully, General Secretary. 292/946/11/62
