We now understand that they have been in communication with the firm of Lincolns-Prager Publishers Ltd., 10, Drake Street, W.C.1. who will be writing to you about this matter. In your communication you also referred to the imprisonment of Caballero's son. You will understand of course that in the very grave circumstances are country is now placed, we cannot exercise the pressure we could otherwise use. We assure you however, that we have used all the means open to us with a view to inducing the Spanish Government to show clemency to their prisoners, and now that a considerable time has elapsed since the Franco Government seized power, we are hoping they will be more humanely disposed and will listen to our representations.
