Dear Friend, I am sorry to hear from your last letter that the state of your health is not good and that matters are made worse by you worrying about your wife and daughters. I am telling you in confidence that I have received a very nice letter from the Foreign Secretary and, with the limited information which we can give him, enquiries are being made through the appropriate channels in order to trace your dear ones. It will be a long process and I would urge you not to worry unduly if definite information does not come through quickly. I should like to feel that you will rest assured that everything possible will be done under the difficult circumstances. You must try to build up your health so that when your wife and daughters can be got out of Spain you will be quite well again. I shall do everything possible at this end and, whilst I am impatient because of the time which is necessarily involved to secure a full report, I am satisfied that the enquiries are proceeding through definite official sources. Again let me ask you not to worry unduly and you may rest assured that I will write to you again as soon as I receive definite news. With kind regards, Yours sincerely, General Secretary.
