Carrillo, who was President of the Spanish Metal Workers' Federation, is at present in this country and is desirous of getting his two children, a daughter aged seventeen and a son aged fourteen, over here with him. They are at present at Oran, Algeria. I understand from Mr. McKenna, the secretary of the British section of the International Metal Workers' Federation, the possibilities of getting his two children over were discussed. I do not know what has taken place since or whether any steps have been taken to get the children here, although Carrillo was at our office last week but, as you will appreciate, the language difficulty made it impossible to get any clear idea from him of what was transpiring. If you are successful in arranging the admission of the children into this country I think you can take it that the British section of the Metal Workers' Federation will accept responsibility for their maintenance until such time as the position becomes more clear and other arrangements can be made. Perhaps you will, therefore, be good enough to let me know whether anything is being done about the children and whether there is a possibility of getting them over. Your fraternally, L. Evans.
