Description
Summary:028-0076-001 TELEPHONE CONVERSATION 25th January, 1936. FOOD FOR SPAIN Mr. R. S. STEPHENSON 12, Bow Lane, E.C.4. Tel City 7482 rang up. He had noticed in the press that, amongst other commodities, we had been shipping to Spain DRIED SALT FISH. He is agent for HAMPSHIRE, BIRRELL & CO., 47, Naylor Street, Liverpool who deal in dried salt fish, and he wondered if they could be of use to us. They deal exclusively in dried salt fish, and supply the Government and a large number of merchants, know all about the shipping, etc. The firm have been obliged, as a matter of business to supply both sides in the civil war, but he himself is a Labour Man of some years standing, and he would much sooner supply the Spanish Government, and would like to be of use to us. He himself (not the above firm) could also supply canned fish, canned cheese, and a number of other commodities. C.S.B. 27th January, 1937. Telephoned Mr. Stephenson, and said we were not anticipating sending any more of these goods in the near future, but would keep a note of his offer for consideration should an opportunity arise.
