Description
Summary:The materials include press clippings from both Romanian and foreign newspapers, news agency releases, transcripts of radio broadcasts, and manuscripts. This series offers a wide spectrum of information on the Romanian anticommunist opposition and dissident movement, and on the events preceding the Romanian Revolution of December 1989. Of special interest are the letters and appeals from Romania sent by listeners directly to the Romanian Broadcasting Department, which were in their turn rebroadcast to the Romanian audience. There are extensive files on human rights issues and social discontent, and also bigraphical files on prominent Romanian dissidents, such as Mihai Botez, Doina Cornea, Mircea Dinescu, and many others. A unique, though small part of the series deals with Romanian samizdat.
