Description
Summary:The analyses and studies presenting TK/MKI research findings can be distinguished from one another primarily in terms of their scope and target audience: they include brief statements summarizing the most important findings, studies comprising hundreds of pages, as well as strictly confidential materials, produced in a total of 12-13 copies, and publications for internal and professional use. Not one of the Institute’s publications was publicly or commercially available. Strictly confidential statements were received by a number of Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party (MSZMP) Central Committee leaders, and the senior management at Hungarian Radio (MR), Hungarian Television (MTV), and the Hungarian State News Agency (MTI). Analyses intended for professional consumption were edited by the Institute’s Publishing and Documentation Department, and published in thematic series, of which the ‘Studies, Accounts, Reports’ series transmitted the Institute’s most important research findings. The ‘Methodology’ series published the highest quality articles by Hungarian and international researchers. The ‘Bulletins’ series contained those analyses which fell outside the scope of ‘Studies’, and which did not reach the ‘Methodology’ series’ professional standards. The ‘Panel Analyses’ contained the experiences and research findings gained through systematic public surveys, while ‘Panel Reports’ contained weekly survey figures on viewership and popularity indices for individual programs. Over the period of its activities, the Institute launched three book series: ‘Professional Library’, ‘Courses’, and ‘Program Monographs’. Manuscripts of studies which were not, for professional or political reasons, published for internal consumption, ended up in the Institute’s Documentary Center. Its quarterly journal was entitled RTV Review (later Jel-Kép), which was later published by the MTA-ELTE Communication Theory Research Group until the end of 2010, when the journal was closed. All publications prepared and published by the TK/MKI were edited, translated and overseen by its Publishing and Documentation Department. No documents were destroyed, extra copies are donated.
